H7N9 Avian Flu Hits China Again

H7N9 avian flu hits China again with two deaths and over 40 cases reported this month. The dreaded flu shook the country last year with over 134 cases and 45 fatalities.

Human Cases

H7N9 AvianState-run Xinhua news agency reported that there are already over 40 human cases of the avian flu from Shanghai municipality, as well as the Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang provinces. An additional four cases were reported today, raising the alert on the epidemic.

The flu resurfaced during the winter, and people are advised to cook their chickens well before eating.

Strengthening Monitoring

The World Health Organization is closely monitoring the situation. China is strengthening the monitoring of pneumonia and influenza cases and is assessing the risk of the epidemic situation.

The National Health and Family Planning Commission said the current cases of the disease were scattered and no mutation had been identified yet that could affect public health.
